Today, the world is undergoing perplexing changes of geopolitics and increasing complexity of international situation due to global conflicts such as Russia-Ukraine conflict and Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In this context, the global energy supply and cooperation structure has taken on a new form. With United States-China decoupling, some countries are faced with serious challenges while some countries have embraced new opportunities. In this session, we will explore the global development and cooperation in energy sector, help identify the opportunities ahead and find the way out.

Karl has more than 24 years’ experience advising clients on a broad range of cross-border M&A transactions, including strategic acquisitions, investments, divestitures and joint ventures, corporate reorganizations, and asset purchases and sales. His practice focuses on representing Japanese clients on transactions outside Japan and assisting multinational clients with transactions in Japan, and he has worked with clients in the energy (including gas, power and renewables), industrial (including automotive and chemicals), healthcare and technology industries. The clients he represents include publicly listed corporations, privately held companies, utilities, government-affiliated and private financial institutions, pension funds, private equity firms and sovereign wealth funds.
In addition to his work with clients, Karl has been an Adjunct Professor at the Keio University Law School in Tokyo since 2014 where he teaches a course on mergers and acquisitions.
